In this catalogue will be found tlie third and final olTering of the coins, numismatic books, old newspapers and historical matter collected by F. W. Doughty, Fsqr., of Kamapo, N. Y. Mr. Doughty has been well known to coin collectors for many years, and his contributions to^mismatics include sever- al hooks and pampiilets. To historical collectors the olferings in tliis sale will he of exceptional interest, as many of the old manuscripts and letters refer to old and influential New York families, institutions, and landmarks, and the names of such noted families as Stuyvesant, De Peyster, Van Rennsselaer, Van Oourtlandt, Cruger, Mortier, Washington, Burr, Fitz Green Hallec^k, Dee, and others are writ- ten upon them. Interesting accounts of the battles of the Pren<'h and Indiau War and the Revolution will be found in the old news[)apers. Among the play bills is one used at Ford’s Theatre, W'ashing- ton, during the memorable night when Lincoln was assassinat- ed, and those with Forrest, Mr. Kemble and Fanny Kemble are included. Revolutionary documents and broadsides, Civil War papers, a fine set of Colonial and Continental paper money and Confederate Money, add to the interest. The addition of a varied lot of coins, with a splendid lot of ancient Greek and Roman silver will attract the numismatists. The collection of medals at the end of the catalogue is of considerable size, and the presidents from Washington to Lincoln are nearly all repre- sented by splendid portraits in bronze.
